What happened?

Yunus Emre Konak has signed a new five-year contract with Brentford, with a club option of a further year. The 20-year-old midfielder has also joined Sky Bet Championship side Lincoln City on loan for the duration of the 2026/27 season.

Why it matters for Brentford

The signing of Yunus Emre Konak is a significant boost for Brentford, as the midfielder has already shown his potential in the Premier League. His new contract will keep him at the club for the next five years, with a club option of a further year.

What comes next?

The 20-year-old midfielder will now continue his development with Lincoln, who won the Sky Bet League One title last season to secure promotion to the Championship. Konak will play a key role in Lincoln's bid to stay in the Championship, and his performances will be closely monitored by Brentford.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews said: "I like Yunus a lot. I've seen his development at close quarters, even going back to when I was set-piece coach. "I really like him as a young man. He came over here not speaking much English, and he's a really popular member of the squad because he's all in on Brentford."

Konak on new deal and Lincoln loan

"I am very happy to sign a new contract with Brentford," said the midfielder. "I am really grateful to the club for the trust and belief they are showing me. I know I still have a lot to learn and improve on, and I am really excited to keep working hard and developing."

League standing (final 2025 table -- new season not yet under way): 8th in Premier League, 48 pts, 13W-9D-11L from 33 games, recent form DDDDD. Goals this season: 48 scored, 44 conceded (+4 goal difference). Next fixture: vs Nottingham Forest (away, 2027-02-06).

Brentford director of football Phil Giles said: "Yunus has earned his new contract based on his performance over the last 12 months. He had a very good loan at Oxford where he played well, so we are looking for him to build on that this season with Lincoln, who were very keen for him to join them for the season."

Konak's background

Konak joined Brentford from Turkish Süper Lig side Sivasspor in January 2024. The midfielder made his professional debut for Sivasspor at the age of 17 in August 2023 and started each of the club's next 16 league games. His performances earned recognition later that year when he was included in The Guardian's list of the best young players in world football born in 2006.
