Brentford has announced that Jordan Henderson will be leaving the club by mutual consent ahead of a proposed transfer to Chelsea, where he aims to bring his wealth of experience to the West London side. The 36-year-old made 34 appearances for Brentford in his sole season with the club and scored once during this period.
Chelsea's interest in Henderson is part of their strategy to bolster their squad with experienced players as they look ahead to the upcoming Premier League campaign. The Blues are also closing in on a deal for Danny Welbeck, another seasoned player who could provide valuable support to the team.
Henderson expressed his gratitude to Brentford and its supporters following his departure: 'I leave Brentford with a lot of gratitude for the opportunity the club gave me, and for the support and care shown to me and my family from day one,' he said. 'Coming back to the Premier League was really important to me, and Brentford gave me that chance. I'll always be thankful for that.'
The former Liverpool captain's return to the Premier League helped secure his place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, where he became the first player to represent the Three Lions across four different tournaments.
Henderson also praised Brentford: 'Brentford is a special football club. It’s ambitious, progressive and full of good people. From the owners and leadership, to the coaching staff, the players and everyone behind the scenes, it's been a privilege to be part of it.'
He added, 'Most of all, I'd like to thank the supporters. Their backing never changed, and the connection they have with the club is clear to see. They care deeply about Brentford and they support the team in the right way every step of the journey.'
