Roberto De Zerbi admitted the team “suffered physically” and “were not ready to fight the duels.” He said the lack of organisation and the late arrival of players had cost the team.

Stand-in captain Archie Gray echoed the sentiment, saying Spurs “lost too many duels” and that the team “was not up for the fight.”

Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp described the side as a “team of strangers,” noting the lack of cohesion and the failure to win duels.

De Zerbi said: “We knew before the game that with a lot of new players, to become a team we need two things: soul and style of play. Today I think there was the soul, but in the end we didn’t fight in the right way for the difference of the duels.”

Gray added: “They just outfought us. We need to watch it back. For whatever reason, we weren’t up for the fight as they were.”
