Brentford's Frank Onyeka has left the club permanently to join Coventry. The midfielder initially signed on loan in January with a clause ensuring a permanent switch should the Sky Blues achieve promotion.

What happened?

Onyeka signed from Danish side Midtjylland in July 2021, after the Bees secured promotion to the Premier League for the first time. He went on to make 87 appearances for the club, but was hampered by injuries which prevented him from making a greater impact.

Why it matters for Brentford

Phil Giles, Brentford's director of football, complimented Onyeka's "fantastic commitment, work-rate and loyalty" during his time at the club. Giles stated that Onyeka probably didn't start as many games as he'd have liked, which is why the opportunity for him to move to Coventry made sense for all parties.
